Bodybuilding legend Lee Haney is asking for help.
The eight-time Mr. Olympia winner shared this week that he is in need of a living kidney donor, addressing the situation directly after rumors about his health began circulating online.
The 66-year-old said the need for a transplant is real, but emphasized that he remains active and in good condition.
“My approach is to be proactive as I face this current challenge,” he wrote.
According to his family, this isn’t a sudden development. Haney has known for nearly 30 years that a kidney transplant would eventually be necessary.
“Thank you all for being genuinely concerned,” Haney added. “I am still well and fully functional. I’m not needed in heaven at the time.”
Haney is one of the most accomplished figures in bodybuilding history. He won eight Mr. Olympia titles, a record he shares with Ronnie Coleman, and helped define the sport during his run in the 1980s.
His impact extended beyond the stage.
Haney was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2014 and later served as chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports under President Bill Clinton.
Now, the focus shifts. The message isn’t about legacy. It’s about finding a donor.
And for Haney, it’s about facing the situation head-on.
