Two-time Classic Physique Olympia Champion Breon Ansley Gives Massive Praise to Niall Darwen.
The Classic Physique division has continued to add elite young talent, and two-time Olympia champion Breon Ansley believes one rising star has all the tools necessary to eventually become champion.
Ansley recently shared his thoughts on British standout Niall Darwen, who has quickly established himself as one of the best Classic Physique competitors in the world. During an interview shared by BTS TV, Ansley admitted that Darwen’s structure is so impressive that it makes him wonder how other athletes can compete against it.
“I really like that guy, Niall from the UK,” Ansley said. “When I see his physique, I’m like, how are you even gonna compete with that? His proportions and the waist size, it’s like, wow.”
Ansley went even further, predicting that Darwen will eventually find himself standing on top of the Olympia stage.
“He just fills out, you know, his frame a little bit more. It’s remarkable. And that’s probably why I’m also like, ‘Oh, I’m happy to leave the Classic,’ because when I see physiques like that, I’m like, ‘How are you gonna compete with that?’ He has a remarkable physique, and I see him definitely winning soon down the line.”
Niall Darwen Has Quickly Climbed The Classic Physique Ranks
Ansley’s praise carries plenty of weight considering his history in the division. “The Black Swan” captured back-to-back Classic Physique Olympia championships in 2017 and 2018 before Chris Bumstead began his historic run atop the division. Ansley also won the Arnold Classic in 2019 and remained an Olympia contender for years afterward.
Darwen, meanwhile, is still relatively new to the professional ranks.
The British bodybuilder made his pro debut in 2024 and immediately began making noise. Darwen finished 11th in his Olympia debut that year before making an enormous jump in 2025. He cracked the top five at the 2025 Classic Physique Olympia, finishing behind champion Ramon Rocha Queiroz, Mike Sommerfeld, Terrence Ruffin and Josema Munoz.
That fifth-place performance was particularly impressive considering the depth of the lineup. It also put Darwen well ahead of Ansley himself, who finished 14th at the 2025 Olympia.
Now, Darwen is officially qualified to return to the Olympia stage in 2026, giving him another opportunity to continue his rapid climb.
Ansley Preparing For A New Challenge In 212
There was another interesting layer to Ansley’s comments. His reaction to Darwen reinforced why he feels comfortable moving away from Classic Physique.
After spending the majority of his decorated career in Classic, Ansley is now among the qualified competitors for the 2026 212 Olympia.
For Darwen, the road to an Olympia championship remains difficult. Ramon Dino enters 2026 as the reigning champion, while Sommerfeld, Ruffin, Josema and several other elite competitors remain in the picture.
Still, Darwen has already gone from 11th to fifth at the Olympia in just two appearances. If he can add the additional size, Ansley believes his frame can handle while maintaining the proportions and small waist that make him stand out, the former champion sees no reason Darwen cannot eventually take the final step.
