Brad McKim is ready to take on the world.
In his age and weight class.
McKim is set to compete at the 2026 IPF World Master Classic Powerlifting Championships Oct. 15 to 24 in Reno. He’ll be entered in the Men’s Master 2 (aged 50 to 59), 93 Kilograms (205 pounds) Class.
“Brad’s goal for the Worlds is to have fun and do his best competing against the best powerlifters in the world in his age and weight category,” said fellow Vernon powerlifter Marc Vezina, who trains with McKim at World Health and Fitness gym on Highway 6 in Vernon.
McKim competed in the National Powerlifting Classic event in March in St. John’s, Nfld., and Labrador, which featured three types of lifts: squat, bench, and deadlift.
Taking part in his first national championship event, McKim placed second in his weight and age division. He established a provincial record for the squat part of the competition, completing a lift of 235 kilos (518 pounds).
A classic powerlifting bench press is, according to Canada Powerlifting, a press performed using only basic supportive gear without the help of a high-tech supportive bench shirt.
