A bodybuilding priest is coming to Holy Name Catholic Church at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 to speak about caring for the mind, body and spirit.

Father Rafael Capo of Miami, Florida, trains six days a week and bench presses 315 pounds, combining exercise with prayer. With more than 120,000 Instagram followers, Capo regularly posts gym photos, videos and selfies with friends on the social media platform.

Ordained in 1996, he is currently the vice president of missions at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens. Associated with the Catholic Speakers Organization, he speaks at various events across the nation, connecting physical health to spiritual well-being.

Father Brian L. Warchola of Holy Name Catholic Church said he was looking for a unique speaker, which was why he decided to invite Capo.

“I’m always looking for someone unique and who stands out in a good way,” he said.

Capo is one of many interesting guests Warchola has recently invited to the church, including NCAA Notre Dame track star and bobsled Olympian Jadin O’Brien and former mafia boss Michael Franzese.

This event, however, is in partnership with St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Carrolltown. The two parishes expect an hour-long speech from Capo, followed by a meet-and-greet.

Capo typically encourages listeners to care for their mind, body and spirit because our physical bodies are temples for the spirit, Warchola said.
