Grande Prairie powerlifter in his 60s setting records

A soon-to-be 67-year-old from Grande Prairie is setting provincial records in powerlifting for his age and weight classes. 

Raimo Paananen had a 125-kilogram squat lift, an 85-kilogram bench press and a 160-kilogram dead lift at the Alberta Powerlifting Championships, June 12 to 14, in Calgary. 

Paananen competes in the Master 3 class, for those under 66 kilograms in weight and in the 60-69 age group. 

He has competed in powerlifting events in Canada and the US since the 1980s.
