Based on the Old Cork Road in Southill, LPC Southside Barbell continues a strong legacy in Irish powerlifting. The club traces its heritage back to Tommy Dillon’s Southill Powerlifting Club, widely regarded as the foundation of the sport in Ireland.

A squad of 21 athletes represented the club across the competition, producing an exceptional performance overall. The team collected 22 gold medals and 2 silver medals in total.

Standout achievements came from the club’s youngest lifters, 13-year-old Caroline Phelan and 14-year-old Zack Brodie, both of whom won gold in their respective age and weight categories while also setting new Irish records, underlining their remarkable potential.

Further success saw five LPC athletes break European and world records during the championships, while two competitors earned overall champion titles in their divisions.

Limerick Powerlifting Club and Southside Barbell continues to grow its membership and welcomes people of all ages and experience levels who are interested in getting involved in the sport.

Shane Brodie said, “Now that the dust has settled, I want to sincerely thank everyone who made the European Championships such a success—from the athletes, families, and supporters, to the Southside Barbell team, platform crew, officials, volunteers, media, and the World Powerlifting Congress—every single person who gave their time, effort, and support played a vital role in making this event a memorable success, and I will always be deeply grateful.”
