KUCHING (June 13): A total of 46 contestants are competing across seven categories at the 5th Mr Kuching Bodybuilding Championships, which also serves as a selection platform for athletes ahead of the state-level competition next week.

The Mr Sarawak Bodybuilding Championships 2026 is scheduled to be held at Boulevard Shopping Mall here on June 20.

“Mr Kuching is not just a competition, but also a platform for the selection of athletes who will represent Kuching and the southern region at the upcoming Mr Sarawak Bodybuilding Championship,” said Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) president Dr Malvern Abdullah at the opening ceremony at Aeon Mall here.

The event was opened by Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii, who said the championships celebrate not only trophies and physiques, but also the discipline, dedication and commitment of the athletes.

“The athletes standing before you have spent months training. They wake up before sunrise, choose to eat clean and say no to shortcuts and give up.

“That discipline is not limited to bodybuilding. It is the secret ingredient to success in any aspect of life,” he said.

Yii also expressed his vision of a healthier Kuching, where residents walk short distances, families prepare healthier meals at home, and children are inspired by parents who exercise regularly.

Meanwhile, Malvern said the association has, over the years, produced athletes who have represented Sarawak and Malaysia at state, national and international levels.

“This shows that Sarawak possesses tremendous potential in bodybuilding,” he said.

He also commended the Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA), led by its president Adrian Wong, for successfully organising the event for the fifth consecutive year.
