MANILA, Philippines — Filipino weightlifter Albert Delos Santos set a new junior world record after lifting 187 kilograms in the clean and jerk at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt.
The 19-year-old ruled the men’s 71-kg division, clinching the gold medal with a total lift of 326 kg to mark his arrival on the global stage.
Delos Santos improved on his previous record of 185 kg, which he set during the IWF World Championships in Peru in May 2025. He also surpassed his 186-kg lift from the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, where he earned silver in the same category.
The Zamboanga native trains under Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz and her husband-coach Julius Naranjo at the HD Weightlifting Academy in Rizal.
