ABILENE, Texas (KLTV/KTRE) – Hemphill’s Kane Smith brought home gold in his division at the unequipped state championship powerlifting meet at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on Friday.
Unequipped refers to lifting without supportive elastic gear, such as squat suits or bench shirts.
Smith won the 220-pound division with a total of 1,565 pounds. He squatted 575 pounds, bench pressed 405 pounds and deadlifted 585 pounds.
In the 114-pound division, Brownsboro’s Matthew Mendez finished eighth with a total of 675 pounds. Diboll’s Eli Mijares finished 11th with a total of 590 pounds. Tatum’s Isaac Tovar finished 12th with a total of 565 pounds.
In the 123-pound division, Gilmer’s Grayson Fyffe finished 10th with a total of 765 pounds.
In the 132-pound division, Crockett’s Dilan Garcia finished seventh with a total of 920 pounds. Tatum’s Zane Lester finished ninth with a total of 875 pounds.
In the 148-pound division, San Augustine’s Kerrick Burrell finished seventh with a total of 1,155 pounds. Gilmer’s Rylan Jones finished 11th with a total of 1,015 pounds.
In the 165-pound division, Eustace’s Braxton Greene finished 11th with a total of 1,105 pounds.
In the 181-pound division, Tatum’s Aldo Espinoza finished second. He squatted 550 pounds, bench pressed 265 pounds and deadlifted 625 pounds for a total of 1,440 pounds.
In the 198-pound division, Hemphill’s Sawyer Fiscus finished ninth with a total of 1,240 pounds.
In the 220-pound division, Tatum’s Ja’Haidyn Johnigan finished sixth with a total of 1,370 pounds.
In the 242-pound division, Brownsboro’s Devon Spencer finished ninth with a total of 1,310 pounds. New Diana’s Ty Akin finished 11th with a total of 1,275 pounds.
In the 308-pound division, Tatum’s Andres Alvarez finished 11th with a total of 1,270 pounds.
In the super heavyweight division, Mount Pleasant’s Abraham Buenrostro finished fourth. He squatted 565 pounds, bench pressed 335 pounds and deadlifted 565 pounds for a total of 1,465 pounds.
