Gilmer Buckeyes finish 2nd overall, claim 2 individual golds at 4A D2 state powerlifting meet


EDINBURG, Texas (KLTVKTRE) – The Gilmer Buckeyes girls powerlifting team finished second overall and produced two gold medalists at the Class 4A Division II state powerlifting meet at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas, on Friday.

The team finished with 20 points, two points behind the state champions, Robstown. Gilmer’s Brie Jones and Jayna Rucker won their respective divisions.

Jones won the 165-pound division with a total of 1,030 pounds. She squatted 390 pounds, bench pressed 235 pounds and deadlifted 405 pounds.

Rucker won the 198-pound division with a total of 1,020 pounds. She squatted 405 pounds, bench pressed 260 pounds and deadlifted 355 pounds.

In the 97-pound division, Gilmer’s Brylee Bowman finished 10th with a total of 475 pounds. Rusk’s Tatum Collins finished 11th with a total of 460 pounds.

In the 114-pound division, Gilmer’s Elena Perez finished 13th with a total of 600 pounds.

In the 123-pound division, Gilmer’s Lexi Hancock finished fifth. She squatted 300 pounds, bench pressed 160 pounds and deadlifted 325 pounds for a total of 785 pounds. Rusk’s Caris Jinkins finished eighth with a total of 695 pounds.

In the 132-pound division, Rusk’s Zoie Goff finished 11th with a total of 760 pounds.

In the 148-pound division, Gilmer’s Crysta Mendoza finished 13th with a total of 765 pounds. Rusk’s Makinzy McNew finished 15th with a total of 740 pounds.

In the 165-pound division, Athens’ Judith Rondan finished eighth with a total of 850 pounds.

In the 181-pound division, Brownsboro’s Lilly Haldeman won the bronze medal. She squatted 435 pounds, bench pressed 280 pounds and deadlifted 340 pounds for a total of 1,055 pounds.

In the 198-pound division, Gilmer’s Bree Hornsby won the silver medal. She squatted 390 pounds, bench pressed 220 pounds and deadlifted 405 pounds for a total of 1,015 pounds.

In the 220-pound division, Bullard’s Aalyah Ayers finished second. She squatted 465 pounds, bench pressed 220 pounds and deadlifted 375 pounds for a total of 1,060 pounds. Gilmer’s Allison Money finished sixth with a total of 905 pounds.

In the 242-pound division, Spring Hill’s Emmalynn Copeland finished eighth with a total of 915 pounds.

In the 242-plus-pound division, Rusk’s Mattie Oliver finished eighth with a total of 845 pounds. Rusk’s Brooklyn Brawner finished ninth with a total of 805 pounds.
