Apache powerlifting turned in a strong showing at the Navarro Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24, with both squads finishing on the podium. The boys team placed third overall, while the girls team earned a runner-up finish.
Several Apaches stood out individually throughout the meet. Marilyn and Colton each medaled, while Mariah, Sophia and Jairo captured the first medals of their powerlifting careers — the first of many, coaches noted.
A dominant group of lifters brought home gold medals, including Maritza, Madi, Jazlin, Gary, Isaiah and Gus. Daniel delivered one of the highlight performances of the day, breaking the school record in the deadlift and resetting his own school record for total in his weight class on his way to a gold medal finish.
Alize also had a big day, earning gold and qualifying for regionals for the third straight year, continuing her consistent postseason success.
Overall, the invitational marked another encouraging step forward for the Apache powerlifting program as the season continues.
