Natural bodybuilder Clint Trayhern of Pontypool wins OCB

Clint Trayhern, who has trained in the sport since he was 12, competed in the UK Ultimate Physiques (UKUP) event in Milton Keynes and the OCB Ultimate Natural Britain competition in London in October.

At the OCB event, he won the 50+ category and took second place in the open heavyweight division.

Mr Trayhern, a support worker for Torfaen County Borough Council, said: “I get motivated by wanting to improve my physical health and boost my mental well-being.

“I always strive to be a healthier and fitter person.

“If I can do it, anyone can.”

He also placed third in the over-50s Great Britain category and was given the opportunity to compete for a pro card in the over-40s division, though he was not successful.

Now, his sights are set even higher.

Mr Trayhern said: “My biggest ambition in life is to qualify for the Natural Mr Universe in California.

“I feel proud to achieve these results especially at my age, something I’ve worked hard for all my life.

“I’d just like to say never give up on something you want to achieve.

“We all get setbacks but my motto has always been to keep pushing forward no matter what life throws at you.”

Mr Trayhern trains four to five times a week at High Street Fitness in Pontypool and supplements his routine with weekly cold water dips at Keepers Pond in Blaenavon, which he describes as being “fantastic for your mental health and well-being.”

For years, he trained alongside his brothers, Shane and Cae, and his best friend Gareth Alderman, all of whom have sadly died.

He often trained with them at a friend’s farm, where an outbuilding was converted especially into a makeshift gym.

Describing his diet, Mr Trayhern said he regularly ate between 20 and 30 raw eggs a day, as well as raw garlic and chillies.

Mr Trayhern sees his achievements as a way to motivate others, saying that if he can “inspire just one person to get to the gym and train natural,” he would be a happy man.
