Filmhouse Group has renewed its partnership with the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) for the festival’s 2026 edition, reaffirming its commitment to supporting African filmmaking and the growth of the continent’s film industry.

The partnership continues an existing relationship between both organisations, with this year’s festival themed Frames of the Future: Africa’s Creative Intelligence. The theme highlights the ideas, creative possibilities and emerging talent shaping Africa’s film and wider creative industries.

According to Filmhouse Group, the collaboration will provide another opportunity to support African filmmakers, encourage industry-wide conversations and improve the visibility of African stories among local and international audiences.

Speaking on the partnership, Kene Okwuosa, Chief Executive Officer of Filmhouse Group, emphasised the importance of creating platforms that help African stories reach wider audiences. “African stories deserve to be seen, experienced and celebrated by audiences everywhere,” Okwuosa said. “As an industry, we have a responsibility to keep creating opportunities for these stories to reach more people and to build a film industry that can continue to grow.”

He added that continued collaboration with AFRIFF would let the company contribute to discussions and initiatives shaping the future of African cinema.

Filmhouse Group operates across several segments of the film industry, including cinema exhibition, distribution, production and streaming. Through these ventures, the company connects filmmakers and their works with audiences across different platforms.

Mojisola Oladapo, Chief Marketing Officer of Filmhouse Group, also highlighted the importance of distribution and audience engagement in building a sustainable film industry. “At Filmhouse Group, we understand that getting a film to its audience is just as important as the story itself,” Oladapo said. She noted that the partnership provides an opportunity to support filmmakers and strengthen the relationship between African productions and their audiences.

Similarly, Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer of FilmOne Limited and Filmhouse Group, pointed to the need for investment, collaboration and industry infrastructure beyond the production of compelling stories. “Building a stronger African film industry requires more than great stories. It requires collaboration, investment and the right structures to help those stories reach audiences and create lasting value,” Awobokun said.

She described platforms such as AFRIFF as important meeting points for industry professionals to exchange ideas, establish connections and explore opportunities for the sector’s development.

Over the years, AFRIFF has served as a gathering point for filmmakers, distributors, exhibitors and other stakeholders in the African film industry, providing opportunities for networking, film screenings and conversations about the business and creative sides of filmmaking. Filmhouse Group’s continued involvement in the festival reflects its interest in these industry conversations, particularly around expanding distribution opportunities, supporting emerging filmmakers and increasing the international reach of African productions.

The 2026 edition will place the continent’s creative potential and the people driving its development at the centre of its programming.
