Wellington bodybuilder Douglas Green is appealing to the public and local businesses to help him raise R80 000 to compete in Las Vegas in November, following a silver-medal finish at an international bodybuilding competition that recently took place in Singapore.
According to his BackaBuddy fundraising campaign, Green received an invitation to compete in Las Vegas after his performance in Singapore during the 2026 season.
The campaign aims to raise funds for flights, accommodation, competition registration fees, nutrition and travel insurance. Green is also seeking assistance in securing an expedited visa appointment ahead of his planned departure from South Africa on Saturday, November 7.
Funding and visa assistance needed
“I am writing to you with a matter of national pride and extreme urgency. We are seeking financial sponsorship and administrative assistance,” he said.
The fundraising campaign is calling on individuals and businesses to contribute towards the R80 000 target or assist with travel-related costs.
Potential corporate sponsors could receive brand exposure through Green’s competition attire, social media content and media appearances linked to his participation, according to the campaign.
Public urged to support campaign
The campaign is appealing to the public and local businesses to help Green take up the opportunity to compete internationally.
At the time of writing, the BackaBuddy page showed R2 200 raised towards the R80 000 target, with three donors listed.
