CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A woman-owned gym in Charlottesville is hosting its first powerlifting meet Saturday, October 24.
Twenty-five lifters will compete at Blue Ridge Barbell, aiming to move as much weight as possible.
Proceeds from the event go toward The Strength Initiative, a nonprofit that provides strength training for women in midlife or older.
The meet also gives the lifting community a chance to get stronger together.
“You get to do hard things alongside other people that are in it with you, you know, and everybody understands that feeling of accomplishing something that you didn’t think you would be able to do or maybe never done before. So, you know, imagine the best of humanity all coming together, having a good time, eating snacks. It’s great,” Blue Ridge Barbell Owner Caroline Addington said.
The meet begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and will end at 3 p.m.
