Guyana’s bodybuilding contingent has enjoyed another stellar outing on the international stage, capturing gold and silver medals at the recent Mr Universe Colombia Championships.
Shakel Babb made his international debut with a flawless performance to win the gold medal in the Junior Men’s Bodybuilding category.
In just his fourth competitive appearance overall—having previously competed three times locally—Babb rose to the occasion against international rivals and topped the podium.
Jonathan Jeffrey continued his impressive run of form by taking silver in the Men’s Physique Open Class (up to 174cm category) after defeating eight opponents.
The silver medal follows closely behind Jeffrey’s historic gold-medal performance in the Men’s Physique division at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Guatemala in August.
Guyana Body Building and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) Acting President Videsh Sookram accompanied the athletes in Colombia and praised their dedication after Guyana’s successful five-medal haul earlier in the season.
Ministers of Culture, Youth and Charles Ramson Jr. and Steven Jacobs also praised the athletes’ achievements, extending official congratulations to the duo for proudly representing the Golden Arrowhead.
