Mockler wins gold on Canadian stage
Sarnia bodybuilder Bernie Mockler is a national champion for the fourth time.
Mockler, 63, won the men’s masters 60-plus division at the Canadian Physique Alliance’s national pro qualifier last weekend in Toronto.
“Still going strong,” he said.
Mockler is a three-time CPA champion and a one-time Canadian Bodybuilding Federation champion.
He won a silver medal at the National Physique Committee’s North American championships earlier this year in the men’s masters 60-plus light-heavyweight division.
Killer Bees open new season Saturday
The defending Metro champion Alvinston Killer Bees are scheduled to play their Northern Premier Hockey League season opener Saturday at the Brant County Riverhawks.
They also visit the Woodstock Lakers on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Their home opener is Saturday, Oct. 24, against the Riverhawks at 6:45 p.m. at the Brooke-Alvinston-Inwood Community Centre Complex. They play a 20-game schedule.
The Killer Bees recently re-signed goalie Dane Gubbels and forward Ryan Gagner, signed veteran defenceman Jeff Silber from the Stratford Irish and traded defenceman Bryce Kilbourne to the Strathroy Jets for cash.

Flyers schedule makeup game
The Petrolia Flyers will host the Exeter Hawks in a rescheduled game Sunday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Recreation Centre in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.
The Flyers led the visiting Hawks 3-1 on Sept. 24 when play was stopped because of ice problems. The entire game will be replayed.
The Flyers were 2-2-1-0 in the Yeck Division going into Thursday’s home game against the Thamesford Trojans.
They visit the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs Saturday.
Lions softball home for three games
The Lambton Lions will honour their graduating seniors before Saturday’s softball doubleheader against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
Games are at 1 and 3 p.m. at Tecumseh Park.
The Lions play their home finale Tuesday against the St. Clair Saints at 7 p.m. at Tecumseh Park.
The Lions (2-14) are last in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association after losing 8-0 and 7-5 in eight innings to the visiting Conestoga Condors in a twinbill Wednesday. Avery Lines and Lilly Klompstra each had two hits and two RBIs in Game 2.
