Known for
The Olympia record is the record. He finished second to Larry Scott in 1965 and 1966, the contest’s first two editions, and third behind Sergio Oliva in 1967. Three appearances, three podiums, at the very beginning of the contest’s history.
Before that he won the Most Muscular award at the Mr America in 1962 and 1963, the Universe tall class in 1963 and the Mr America tall class in 1964.
Early career
His record opens in 1960 and he was competing at national level as a teenager, taking second at the Teen Mr America and the Mr America in 1963.
He won the professional Mr America in 1967 and 1968 and the Mr USA tall class in 1971. He competed across the AAU, IFBB and WBBG, three separate federations.

Championship appearances
Counted from the same results table below: an appearance is one contest entered (in the years the Olympia also judged weight classes, one appearance can carry two placings), an Olympia title is the overall win in that division, and Top 3 counts first, second and third together. The last row is every professional contest on record for Harold Poole.

Professional results
Every professional contest result on record for Harold Poole, 12 in all. Won by names the winner of the division Harold Poole competed in, and shows a dash where that winner cannot be pinned to one person in the database.
Where these results come from. Each contest in the table was recorded from a named source, and for Harold Poole that source is MuscleMemory. Open any contest above and that page names its own source and links to it where the source is still reachable. That archive no longer answers at the addresses we hold, so it is credited by name here and not offered as a link.
Amateur and other shows not counted above
13 results from amateur shows and other contests this archive does not class as professional. Every total on this page covers the professional career only, so these are listed here but never counted, and they have no contest page.

Legacy
Somebody had to finish second at the first Mr. Olympia and Poole did it twice. He is one of the very few competitors whose record touches the contest’s creation, and there is almost nothing written about him.
Sources
Competition placings on this page come from our own contest database and cover 1960 to 1982. Our corpus records his death in 2014.
Contests of this era awarded a class title and a separate overall, and a Most Muscular award. A Most Muscular row is a prize given at that contest, not a win of it.
In 3 meetings, Chris Dickerson finished ahead of Harold Poole 3 times to 0.
Opponents are ranked by how often they shared a stage and how big the stage was, not by reputation. A meeting is one contest where both competed in the same division and both were placed.
