South American Powerlifting: King sets Fesupo records as Guyana sign off with 21 medals

Guyana concluded their 2026 South American Powerlifting Championships campaign in Santiago with a dramatic record-breaking finale, as 105kg Masters 1 duo Tremel King and Bjorn Williams stormed to gold and silver on Saturday evening.

Making his international debut, King produced a masterclass at the Estadio Nacional, setting new Fesupo records with a 300kg deadlift and a staggering 747.5kg total.

Successful on eight of his nine attempts, King claimed gold in the squat (272.5kg), deadlift, and total, alongside silver in the bench press (175kg) to cap an unforgettable first appearance for his country.

Williams ensured Guyana dominated the division from start to finish, fending off challenges from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina to take overall silver with a 692.5kg total.

Williams collected individual silver in the deadlift (287.5kg)—narrowly missing an ambitious 302.5kg record attempt on his final lift—and added bronze in the bench press (162.5kg).

Three further Guyanese debutants gained valuable platform experience in Santiago. Sereste King produced a solid display in the 105kg Open class, completing eight of his nine lifts to finish sixth with a 662.5kg total.

In the 93kg Open category, Joshua John and Omali Vancooten placed eighth and ninth overall, posting totals of 610kg and 605kg respectively against a formidable international field.

The final-day surge pushed Guyana’s total medal haul in Chile to an impressive 21, comprising six gold, 10 silver, and five bronze medals. (Modified Press Release)
