South African bodybuilder Xola Magwaza has made the country proud after becoming a two-time world champion at a recent international competition.
South African bodybuilder Xola Magwaza, has become a two-time world champion following his recent win in Singapore.
According to Sandton Chronicle, the 38-year-old Sandton resident made history after winning the International Natural Bodybuilding Association/Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA/PNBA) Natural Universe competition in Singapore.
Magwaza’s latest win comes after his struggle with obesity and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. He decided to take charge of his life and started bodybuilding, little knowing that the journey would eventually lead to him winning trophies around the world.
“Once the restrictions were lifted, after having gained a lot of weight, I was fed up with how I allowed myself to get to that state, so I vowed I would turn my life around,” Magwaza told the publication.
According to the publication, in 2024, Magwaza won the overall title in the Sports Model category at Natural Olympia, earning his first professional card.
Now, in his latest achievement, he competed across four categories and collected three gold medals. In the Men’s Physique category, he was crowned overall champion and earned a professional card.
One of the schools Magwaza attended, St David’s Marist Inanda Old Boys, also took to social media on to celebrate his achievement.
In an Instagram post, the school congratulated the Class of 2006 alumnus for his incredible achievement at INBA/PNBA Singapore, where he won three of his four classes to be crowned World Champion.
The school also said Magwaza became the first South African to win an open title at Natural Universe, following his success in 2024 when he won gold at Natural Olympia.
“Xola became the first South African to win an open title at Natural Universe and follows his success in 2024, where he won Gold at Natural Olympia. Xola is now the first and only South African to have won a Gold Medal in the two biggest natural bodybuilding competitions in the world. This is an amazing achievement, well done!” the school said.
