SELANGOR: A five-gold haul capped a stellar Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 campaign for Sarawak’s para powerlifting squad, which finished as the overall champion with eight medals.
The squad ended its campaign with five gold, one silver and two bronze medals, successfully achieving the target set before the Games.
Team manager Rosmalina Mat Darus said she was pleased with the overall performance and achievements of the athletes throughout the competition.
“I am very satisfied with the performance and achievements of our para powerlifters this time.
“Basically, we have achieved the target we set, which was to win five gold medals,” she told Sarawak Tribune.
Rosmalina also praised the fighting spirit displayed by the athletes throughout the competition, saying each of them gave their best when they stepped onto the platform.
“The athletes gave their best when competing in their respective events,” she said.
She was particularly impressed by the performances of Sarawak’s new athletes, who made an impact on their debut at the Games by contributing to the team’s medal haul.
“It is very encouraging to see the performances of our new athletes, who also managed to make their mark as medal contributors,” she added.
The five gold medals were won by Anson Tiong Cheong Huat in the men’s 49kg, Bibiana Ahmad in the women’s 61kg, Johannes Gabriel Chew in the men’s 65kg, Sona Agon in the women’s 61kg and Bryan Junency Gustin in the men’s 88kg.
Mohd Firdaus Affandi secured silver in the men’s 80kg, while Nurul Rabiatul Adawiyah Bakri and Brownson John Gustin contributed bronze medals in the women’s 61kg and men’s 88kg respectively.
The haul saw Sarawak finish its para powerlifting campaign on top of the overall standings, underlining the squad’s strength across the various weight categories.
