Elizabeth Smart is proving once again that true strength isn’t measured in trophies or titles.
Taking to Instagram following her latest bodybuilding event, the 38-year-old child safety advocate and author wowed fans as she took to the stage in a dazzling blue micro-bikini.
While she candidly revealed that she finished at the bottom of her categories, Elizabeth’s uplifting response to the scoreboard demonstrated her winning mindset.
Sharing a video of her striking poses, Elizabeth reflected on the experience with a message about stepping outside of her comfort zone.
Elizabeth stands by her attitude towards the competition
© Instagram“Another show for the books! Had such a blast,” she wrote alongside the video. “I’ve always said ‘just stepping on stage is a win for me!’ And I completely stand by that.”
Elizabeth broke down the event details and revealed she entered both the age-specific “Masters 35+” category and the height-based “Open Class D” division.
“I placed at the bottom of both classes,” she added candidly. “Regardless of where I placed, I loved the whole experience, had an amazing coach (@slcrobynmaher), got to step onstage with my best friend (@mpholsombake), and had the best support squad in the audience I could ask for.”
She also reflected on her growth throughout her fitness journey, when she wrote: “I brought a better physique and stage presence than at my previous shows, and I’m so proud of myself for the hard work, discipline, and bravery it takes me to compete. So here’s to pursuing goals and not giving up!”
Finding her passion in the fitness world
The mother-of-three, who first inspired millions worldwide with her resilience following her 2002 abduction, opened up about taking up competitive bodybuilding to celebrate what her body is capable of achieving.
Having initially kept her training quiet out of fear of judgment, Elizabeth went public with her passion after realizing she wanted to redefine how she saw herself.
“I think it’s easy to be labeled as one thing, and honestly, that’s not me nor do I think it’s any of us,” she previously explained. “We are more than just one topic, one idea, one label. I don’t want to reach the end of my life and look back and feel regret for only living a half-life, not going after all the things I want to do and try.”
Elizabeth was cheered on by her husband, Matthew Gilmour who she said was part of the “best support squad”.
Her latest post was flooded with praise from fans who hailed her refreshing perspective on fitness, courage, and self-love.
