Tasman lost out in round five to Northland, having won two in a row before that. Both teams kicked a penalty and scored a converted try in the first half to go into the break at 10-10. The game remained level until the 70th minute. Rivez Reihana then scored 10 points with a penalty and by converting his own try to win 20-10.

Wellington have continued their difficult start to the season as they lost their fifth game in a row. The difficult run came with a 46-35 defeat to Counties Manukau. They scored three tries in the first 30 minutes to take a 21-12 lead. Counties scored two tries before halftime to take a 26-21 lead into the break. Wellington then conceded three in a row after the break to get to 43-21. Wellington would score two tries, but a late Counties Manukau penalty stretched the lead out to 11 points.
