American super-heavyweight powerlifter Devonte Lewis delivered a performance for the history books at the 2026 AMP (Powerlifting America) Rising Tide competition on August 30 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Making his debut in an IPF affiliate, Lewis crushed a 480-kilogram (1,058.2-pound) Raw Squat and unofficially broke the International Powerlifting Federation World Record, quickly cementing his position among the most dominant lifters in tested powerlifting.
Devonte Lewis’ squat session began on a rocky note with an ambitious 440-kilogram (970-pound) opener that was unfortunately red-lighted. Refusing to back down, Lewis returned to the platform for his second attempt with total focus, comfortably sinking and completing a 460-kilogram (1,014.1-pound) squat to get on the board.
For his final squat, Deevonte Lewis loaded a massive 480-kilogram (1,058.2-pound) onto the bar. He unracked the weight cleanly, hit depth, and drove through the sticking point to complete the lift. Many noted that he seemed rather comfortable with nearly half a ton on his back, showing that he might have more in the tank for when he makes his international debut.
*Jesus Olivares holds the official +120KG Raw Squat IPF World Record of 478-kg (1,053.8-lb), which he set at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.

Devonte Lewis has taken part in four sanctioned competitions so far and has won all of them. He initially started competing in the PLU but then moved to the USAPL. However, he has now decided to transition to the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), where he will clash with the likes of Jesus Olivares and others.
Devonte Lewis is quickly improving and approaching the 500-kilogram (1,102.3-pound) raw squat milestone, as he is undoubtedly aiming to become the first person to achieve the feat. However, his incredible performance in the bench and deadlift shows that he is not just a squat specialist, but rather an exceptionally well-rounded lifter.
