After years of domestic abuse, a former national-level powerlifter in Agra has accused her husband of trying to kill her, claiming he lured her to a hotel on the pretext of discussing a settlement before attacking her with a knife.
Khushboo, now a primary school teacher, has also shared videos purportedly showing her husband assaulting her. The footage has gone viral on social media.
She has filed a police complaint against her husband, Virendra, alleging years of physical abuse, financial harassment and repeated violence.
According to Khushboo, she married Virendra in 2011 and soon after, he moved into her parents’ home but did not take up regular employment.
Instead, she claims, he frequently assaulted her and demanded money.
Khushboo, who has two children, says she continued to endure the alleged abuse while raising her family.
In her complaint, she said that tensions between the couple intensified around two-and-a-half years ago, adding Virendra would not work and eventually began controlling her finances, including keeping her ATM card and managing her bank accounts.
About six months ago, following an argument, he left the house and began living separately.
On July 26, Virendra contacted her and asked her to meet him at a hotel, telling her they would discuss a settlement.
She said that once she reached the hotel, he demanded Rs 1 lakh from her. When she refused, he attacked her with a knife.
According to Khushboo, her husband tried to stab her in the stomach, but she managed to move away and the knife struck her leg instead. She then raised an alarm, following which he stuffed a cloth into her mouth and continued assaulting her.
She claims she eventually managed to escape from the hotel and save her life.
Khushboo has also shared several videos of Virendra assaulting her. In one of the videos, the couple’s son repeatedly pleads with his father to stop beating his mother.
“The children would cry for help and plead with their father to stop,” she said, claiming the beatings continued despite their pleas.
She has also accused of Virendra mixing drugs into her food and drinks, leaving her unable to resist him.
Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case.
The allegations against Virendra have not been independently established, and the police investigation is underway.
