The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) on Tuesday closed a fitness center in Amman after inspectors seized hormonal injections prohibited for bodybuilding use, as well as expired products, as part of a targeted inspection operation.
JFDA Director General Rana Obaidat said the seized items included L-Carnitine injections and Nandrolone injections, an anabolic steroid that is not authorized for use in this context. Inspectors also seized 60 containers of expired protein powder.
An inspection of the facility also found an area designated for preparing and serving beverages and protein shakes inside the gym in violation of applicable requirements.
The authority confiscated all non-compliant products for proper disposal and began legal procedures to refer the person responsible to the Public Prosecutor.
Obaidat stressed that inspection campaigns and comprehensive monitoring operations targeting gyms and facilities that distribute sports supplements and products for athletes will continue to safeguard public health and safety.
The JFDA urged the public to verify that any product or preparation has been officially authorized by the authority before using it.
