Larry Wheels has made up his mind about a potential bodybuilding comeback following his latest injury, saying “I don’t have any intention to do bodybuilding.”
Wheels suffered a torn bicep during his boxing match against Vitaly at Brand Risk 15 in Miami on Saturday, Aug. 22. The injury brought the fight to an abrupt end. Despite Wheels landing a knockdown, the bout was ruled a no contest.
In a post-fight interview, Wheels discussed his recovery plans and said he may skip surgery.
The comment seemingly puts to rest, at least for now, the possibility that fans could see Larry Wheels flex on stage again.
Larry Wheels Plans To Let Biceps Heal Without Surgery
While showing the injury during the interview, Wheels joked that his two arms are now “symmetrical” because he previously tore his left biceps.
Wheels said:
“Now it matches my left bicep. So now they’re symmetrical.”
He added that his previous injury took only a matter of weeks to begin healing and said he opted against surgery because of the lengthy recovery that would have followed.
Wheels said he may once again allow the injury to heal without surgery, while mentioning the potential use of peptides during his recovery:
“I may just take some peptides, heal for the next month, and let it be, man.”
Wheels’ history with biceps injuries stretches back several years. In 2019, he tore his left bicep while training for a competition and ultimately allowed the injury to heal without surgery.
Years later, Wheels explained that the tendon had torn from the muscle and that a specialist initially told him it could not be reattached. Wheels said he later learned that surgery had been possible and acknowledged that he should have sought a second opinion at the time. By then, however, he was unwilling to undergo a procedure that could have kept him from upper-body training for roughly nine months.
Wheels Appears To Close Door On Bodybuilding Return
The timing of Wheels’ latest comments is significant because he has already proven himself capable of competing at the professional level.
Wheels earned his IFBB Pro card in Classic Physique in 2023, adding bodybuilding to a résumé that already included elite-level powerlifting and ventures into strongman and arm wrestling.
However, his interests have increasingly shifted toward other competitive pursuits. His bout against Vitaly represented another move outside traditional strength sports, although it ended prematurely when Wheels suffered the latest tear.
For now, Wheels appears much more concerned with getting healthy and moving forward than planning another bodybuilding prep.
