WASHINGTON (TNND) — Canadian powerlifting athlete April Hutchinson led a pro-Sophie Cunningham rally in Toronto earlier this week.
The crowd consisted of multiple people wearing XX-XY Athletics T-shirts. The rally took place before the Indiana Fever’s game against the Toronto Tempo.
According to Fox News, there was a billboard at the protest that had a picture of Cunningham and a message from Martina Navratilova that talked about fairness in women’s sports.
The billboard was set up by Rebel News and it was fined. Fox News Digital obtained a copy of the ticket and the charges listed read, “Display sign with animation/video display/illumination/flashing lights/sound/movement or simulation motion, contrary to Toronto Municipal By-law 693-14, Section 12.”
Cunningham said in the past that she believed biological men should stay out of women’s sports.
“If Title IX and women’s sports weren’t protected, then you wouldn’t hear about any type of women in sport,” she said earlier this year. “I think in the future it’s just really important to protect.”
She also said that she wasn’t a political person and loves everyone.
“I extend love, I don’t dislike anyone, I think there’s room for absolutely everyone here,” she said. “I think there’s room to love everyone. I truly think when you get people in the same room, you actually have a lot in common with a lot of people. But I’m also there to love biological women, and I think there are rights that need to be protected.”
