One of Queens’ very own will be competing in a bodybuilding world championship next month.
Tyler Lowther, 33, of Woodhaven, qualified for the Organization of Competition Bodies Yorton Cup Pro World Championships, and will compete in Charlotte, NC, on Sept. 20.
The Yorton Cup, known as the “Super Bowl of Natural Bodybuilding,” is the most prestigious and competitive event of its kind, his supporters pointed out.
Lowther qualified for the world championship after placing first in the Pro Bodybuilding Division at the OCB Battle of the Godz 2025 Regional Competition in Rhode Island.
OCB is the world’s largest and most prestigious all-natural bodybuilding federation. OCB strictly prohibits the use of performance-enhancing drugs, screening all competitors before and after each event.
Lowther, a personal trainer and assistant general manager at New York Sports Clubs in Rego Park, began bodybuilding in 2024 and immediately fell in love with the sport, dedicating himself to sculpting his body through training, diet and exercise.
He assembled a team of Queens professionals from his colleagues at the sports club to help him succeed.
Personal coach Zachary Clark and nutritionist Shereen Samra, both also trainers at Rego Park’s NYSC, were invaluable in helping Lowther quickly advance to the next level of bodybuilding.
Only six months after his debut competition, he earned his pro card by scoring first-place amateur wins in both Bodybuilding Novice and Bodybuilding Open at OCB’s Big Apple Competition in New York in August 2024.
“Though Bodybuilding may appear to be an individual sport, the truth is that none of what I’ve achieved would be possible without my team,” Lowther said in a statement.
“My Coach, Zach, oversees every area of strength and muscle development and also designs my stage routines, while my Nutritionist, Shereen, is a genius when it comes to diet and nutrition prep. There is no way I could have achieved this win without the two of them, or without the unending support of my wife Jessica, who is my rock.”
With the world championship soon approaching, Lowther has been training tirelessly with his team helping him every step of the way.
The best natural bodybuilders in the world will have to face five-time Yorton Champion Magnum McCrae, but Lowther is ready to give it his all against the bodybuilding champ.
“It was an honor to have Magnum present my 1st-place medal at Battle of the Godz,” Lowther said.
“He’s an absolute legend and the best this sport has ever seen, but I look forward to going toe-to-toe with him at Yorton. I’ll be training harder than I ever have in my life, and I intend to give him an unforgettable battle.”
