UDHAMPUR, Aug 11: JK Sports and Fitness Club Trust J&K organized the National Raw Powerlifting Bench Press & Deadlift Championship at Balotra Palace, Udhampur, with more than 200 athletes from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan participating in the championship.
Powerlifters from Mansa, Bathinda, Patiala, Jalandhar, Pathankot and other parts of Punjab displayed impressive strength and talent and won gold, silver and bronze medals in different categories. The Federation awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,100 to gold medal winners, while Rs 5,100 cash prizes were presented to the top strong man and strong woman lifters in various categories.
Chief guest Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA, graced the occasion as chief guest. HP Singh Jasrotia (Bablu), International Athlete and Powerlifter, appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and take up sports and fitness as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Adnan Choudhary of Jammu was declared strong man powerlifter, while Riya Mahajan bagged the strong woman title along with gold medal honours.
The organizers expressed gratitude to Rakesh Singh Bhandral, National gold medalist; Ajay Sharma, world champion; Umesh Kumar, world champion; Rakesh Sharma; Bhopil Pratap Singh Jasrotia; Narinder Singh; Adv. Kirty Bhushan Mahajan; Abhay Singh; officials, athletes and supporters for their contribution towards making the Championship a grand success.
