“It just really puts a smile on my face. It has really changed my life.”
Reactions usually consisted of “how do I get like you?”, “what’s your workout routine?” and “what’s your diet?”
It was the “best thing a person can do for themselves”, he said.
“Training, eating right, getting good sleep – all that stuff is what everyone should be doing in order to improve themselves.”
Cossgrove spends about an hour and a half, four days a week, in the gym.
The North Island Classic experience was “incredible”, he said.
“It was insane. I loved every bit of it … it was just awesome.”
Cossgrove finished at Lytton High School last year and recently completed a personal training course.
His life now revolves around bodybuilding and he admits he has become “kind of obsessed”.
Cossgrove’s advice for anyone thinking of getting into bodybuilding is simple: “Just go for it.”
“At first it will be an intimidating experience, but once you compete and [get to] be with other people, it’s honestly the greatest thing in the world.”
Cossgrove is preparing for the ICompete Natural nationals in Auckland in September.
He was supported at the North Island event by his mum, nan, cousins and friends. He made a special mention of his grandmother Wendy Cossgrove, who he said was one of his biggest supporters.
