IMPHAL, Jul 21 : Tensubam Sovini, Thokchom Kunjarani and Kangjam Ibemhal secured gold medals to swell Manipur’s tally at the National Masters Classic and Equipped Powerlifting Championship 2026 to 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals.
T Sovini won the gold medal in the Masters-II women’s -69 kg category competition with an accumulative lift of 200 kg. She managed 70 kg in squat, 40 kg in bench press and 90 kg in deadlift to finish on top.
Thokchom Kunjarani who competed in the Masters-IV women’s -76 kg class emerged on top with an overall 150 kg lift. She registered 60 kg in squad, 30 kg in bench press and 60 kg in deadlift.
Kangjam Ibemhal meanwhile secured the Masters-IV women’s -84 kg category gold by recording a total lift of 140 kg- 50 in squat, 30 in bench press and 60 in deadlift.
Md Aman Khan, Naoshekpam Bimola and Nena Maimom on the other hand won silver medals for Manipur at the championship.
Md Aman registered second best lift of 605 kg in Masters-II Men’s -93 kg competition (230 kg in squat, 140 kg in bench press and 235 kg in deadlift) as Naoshekpam Bimola registered 200 kg in Masters-III women’s -84 kg category (70 kg in squat, 40 kg in bench press and 90 kg in deadlift) and Nena Maimom recorded 220 kg- 80 kg in squat, 40 kg in bench press and 100 kg in deadlift, in the Masters-III Women’s +84 kg category competition to seal the silver medals.
Rajkumar Chandrakumar on the other hand bagged the Masters-IV Men’s -74 kg category bronze medal by posting an overall lift of 200 kg- 70 kg in squat, 40 kg in bench press and 90 kg in deadlift.
Notably, Kirankumar Kangjam had won a silver medal in the Men’s Masters-III -59 kg category competition with an accumulative lift of 230 kg at the championship while Huidrom Suni settled for a bronze medal in the Women’s Masters-II -52 kg category competition with a total 220 kg finish.
The championship being underway in Garkheda, Maharashtra will run till July 23.
