Affected by polio in both legs as a child and raised by her grandmother after losing her mother early in life, Kasthuri Rajamani from Tamil Nadu discovered para powerlifting relatively late, taking up the sport in 2018 at the age of 34 after a friend introduced her to it. Trained by coach G. Vijaya Sarathy and later at the Sports Authority of India, she made rapid progress, representing India at the Asian Para Games within four years of picking up the sport.Today, at 41, Kasthuri is one of India’s most experienced para powerlifters, having gone on to compete at the Paris Paralympics.
