Jay Cutler Talks Diet Changes at 52, Explains Why He No Longer Force Feeds – Fitness Volt


Jay Cutler’s diet has gone through significant changes since his time onstage. In a July 14 YouTube video, he explained why he no longer force feeds at 52 and shared that eating five to six meals a day has become more challenging in retirement. 

To catch up with Ronnie Coleman, it took more than just intense training sessions. Jay Cutler practically lived in the kitchen when he wasn’t at the gym and was eating seven daily meals at the peak of his bodybuilding career. Ultimately, he earned four Mr. Olympia titles in an era defined by freaky size. 

In his final Mr. Olympia contest in 2013, Cutler secured sixth place. While he’s stepped away from competing, “The Comeback Kid” still trains seven days a week. At 52, he admits that following a pro bodybuilder diet no longer aligns with his current fitness goals.

In the JayWalking YouTube video, Cutler shared that consuming five to six meals a day has become a battle.

“When you talk about how structured I was, they [fans] see today’s Jay Cutler, where I’m not a professional bodybuilder anymore, and I still talk about the regimen, but I’m nothing like I was. We were just talking about trying to get five or six meals a day. I fight to get that now. It’s so difficult.” 

Since he no longer needs to train for contests, Cutler stressed that he eats when he’s hungry rather than force-feeding food. 

“Because that’s not priority to me. I’m still eating, but I’m almost to a point where I eat for when I’m hungry more than… why am I going to force feed food if I really don’t have to? I’m not training to that capacity right now,” shared Jay Cutler. 

 

He added that his food intake depends on his activity levels each day: 

“I still naturally eat, but I think for me, I do get hungry on certain days; it really just depends on my output. I’m training pretty consistently, but even this week, I took a day or two off, which is kind of rare for me but it’s just me listening to my body. I was tired.” 

Though Cutler’s diet has changed, some things have remained the same, including his go-to exercises. He recently broke down why the leg extension machine is still his number one movement for a quad pump. He shared that it helps warm up the legs before more intense compound movements. 

Cutler has shown exceptional longevity at 52 and still pays close attention to his diet and training. He doesn’t eat like he did when he was 270 pounds, as his fitness goals have shifted in recent years.
