Organizers expect a strong turnout for the day’s events, which highlight the unique community spirit, history and creativity of the Venice Beach area.
Venice Beach and neighboring Marina del Rey are gearing up for a full day of patriotic festivities on Saturday, blending family-friendly competitions, live entertainment and fireworks to mark the Fourth of July.
The Venice Canals Association is hosting its annual 4th of July Celebration, featuring the return of beloved local traditions along the historic waterways. Events run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sherman Avenue at the Eastern Canals, including the finish line for the Downwind Regatta and Rubber Ducky Race.
The highlight is the Great Duck Race at 1 p.m., where participants can adopt rubber ducks for $5 during pre-sale events. A Downwind Regatta follows at 2 p.m., inviting creative, wind-powered vessels of all kinds — “if it floats, it’s a boat.” Live music by Circa ’77, local food and treats, and an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. round out the afternoon. Proceeds benefit the association’s efforts in neighborhood beautification, bridge rehabilitation, plantings and safety initiatives.
A colorful Venice Flying Carousel will be on site as part of the celebration, adding to the festive atmosphere for families.
Nearby in Marina del Rey, the annual fireworks show presented by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors will light up the sky at 9 p.m. for about 20 minutes. Spectators can view the display from the Venice Beach Pier, Playa Vista, Dockweiler Beach and other vantage points. For an enhanced experience with music synchronization, officials recommend Burton Chace Park or Fisherman’s Village. Details on parking, street closures and FAQs are available at the county’s website.
Marina del Rey, the world’s largest man-made small craft harbor with capacity for thousands of boats, provides a scenic backdrop for the pyrotechnics.
Fitness enthusiasts will also converge on Venice Beach for the annual Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach competition at the historic Muscle Beach venue. Hosted by Icon Muscle and Cruise Planners, the event draws competitors from around the world in divisions including bodybuilding, figure, wellness, men’s physique, bikini and more. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with prejudging at 10 a.m. and finals at 1 p.m. Spectator admission is free.
