Calum Von Moger Explains Why He Moved to Thailand, Overcame Addiction, and Left His Bodybuilding Goals Behind – Fitness Volt

Calum Von Moger is breaking his silence following several months away from social media. In a YouTube video from June 27, 2026, he discussed his move to Thailand, battling addiction, and why his bodybuilding aspirations have faded away.

For a moment, fans thought Von Moger would become the next Arnold Schwarzenegger. He portrayed the legendary bodybuilder in ‘Bigger,’ prompting speculation about his chances at the Classic Physique Olympia.

Those lofty goals never came to fruition; instead, Von Moger faced a string of setbacks. He injured himself jumping out of a two-story window and was put into a medically induced coma. Though he made a full recovery, the 36-year-old was later arrested for a road rage incident.

Making matters worse, Von Moger lost his brother to suicide in 2022. While he continues to mourn, the bodybuilding star recently addressed his absence online and teased what lies ahead for him.

Calum Von Moger on Addiction Recovery, New Life in Thailand, and Fading Bodybuilding Aspirations

In the video, Von Moger explained that he moved to Thailand for a fresh start and stressed that he needed a break from social media.

“I’m sure probably a lot of you are wondering where I’ve been, and the answer to that question is a very short answer to that: I’ve been away. I took some time off this year. I really needed to take a break from just social media, kind of a detox. I’m still trying to figure this whole thing out.”

Once considered a top prospect, Von Moger admits his bodybuilding aspirations are fading away.

“My goals and my dreams and these aspirations I had growing up and getting into the sport of bodybuilding were fading away, or they just were not attainable. I was in denial for a long time, and I didn’t even know it.”

“I had accepted that I wasn’t getting into the Classic Physique Olympia. I came to Thailand and made this place home,” he said.

He recalled his friends in Thailand taking him to his first Narcotics Anonymous meeting, which allowed him to adopt a new perspective on life:

“He took me to my first NA meeting. That kind of started things for me. Then, I decided for myself to take action. It had to come within. If I didn’t want to go to that meeting, it doesn’t work.”

“That’s why I’ve been away the last six or seven months,” he shared. “It made me realize I’m taking things for granted and foolish, and just trying to run away.”

Looking ahead, Von Moger plans to focus on wellness and staying active.

“I moved out of my last place into a new little condo to get settled out. I turned off all my social media so I can have a break from all the noise and just work on myself. That’s why I’ve been away the last six or seven months.”

“I can basically be here, as we are now, and get back on the path of wellness, really, and staying active and staying fit and being productive.”

The last time Von Moger was in the US, he shared a high-volume, minimal rest upper body workout. He revealed that his goal was to focus on athleticism, sharing, “I’m excited. It’s the first time in my life I’m going to be okay with losing size.”

Despite numerous obstacles, Von Moger is determined to remain active. His bodybuilding aspirations may be slipping away, but his mental health has rebounded.
