Novopysmennyi wins silver at World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Druskininkai | Ukraine news


A veteran Ukrainian lifter delivered a dramatic performance in Druskininkai, challenging the leader until the final lift. Read how small margins decided the medals.

The World Championship in classic powerlifting is underway in the city of Druskininkai (Lithuania).

The silver medalist at the world championship in the up to 105 kg weight category was Ukrainian multiple-time world champion Anatoliy Novopysmennyi, according to the organizers of the competition.

The Poltava-born Novopysmennyi posted a strong set of results: third place in the squat – 350 kg, second in the bench press – 232.5 kg, tenth in the deadlift – 352.5 kg. In total, the three-lift total was 932.5 kg, earning silver.

The victory in this weight class went to American athlete Enton Maknoton with an overall result of 980 kg. The bronze medal went to Danish athlete Regina Stergakisa – 932.5 kg.

In addition to Novopysmennyi, Ukraine is also represented at the 2026 World Championship by Taras Melnychuk (up to 120 kg), Viktor Goliney (over 120 kg) and Lyudmyla Bochok (over 84 kg). The World Powerlifting Championship will run until June 21.

The competition continues, and Ukrainian athletes continue to strive for high placements across different weight categories.
