KUCHING: When he is not responding to emergencies at the airport, Muhamad Faredhzuan Termizi Saufi can be found pursuing another demanding challenge – competitive bodybuilding.
The 32-year-old Airport Fire Rescue Service (AFRS) personnel saw that dedication rewarded on Saturday when he captured the coveted Champion of Champions (CoC) title at the Fifth Mr Kuching Bodybuilding Championship held at AEON Mall Kuching Central.
Better known as Mizi among friends, he first secured the Bodybuilding Above-70kg crown before advancing to the Champion of Champions showdown against Bodybuilding Under-70kg winner Azmizi Bujang and Novice champion Mohd Amirul Razali.
“It took me a moment to get out of the feeling of disbelief.
“But then I told myself that this was what 12 weeks of preparation had led to,” Faredhzuan said after securing the CoC title.
The victory marked a breakthrough moment for the Melanau athlete from Daro, who only switched from physique competition to bodybuilding this year.
“I started with physique in 2023, but this year I felt my training needed an upgrade.
“It was a transition, but I felt it was a natural decision.
“Still, I never expected it would lead to the championship title. For this, I’m really happy and thankful for the solid support from my family, colleagues, the Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA) and our Team Pringles coaches, Jaja and Badrul,” he said.
With the Mr Kuching title secured, Mizi has already shifted his focus to the upcoming Mr Sarawak 2026 championship at Boulevard Shopping Mall Kuching this Saturday.
“Now, it’s time to refocus on Mr Sarawak, the state-level competition. I want to do my best,” he said.
When asked how he planned to celebrate, Mizi offered a light-hearted answer.
“After Mr Sarawak 2026, I will head straight to Kampung Bahagia Jaya and really enjoy my grandmother’s ikan arun and nyak sekiu.
“It will be a reward for myself,” he quipped.
The Fifth Mr Kuching Bodybuilding Championship attracted 46 athletes from Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong and Saratok.
Organised by the Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA) under the Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA), the annual championship serves as a selection platform for athletes aiming to qualify for the state-level Mr Sarawak competition.
