KUCHING (June 14): A decision to switch from physique to bodybuilding proved rewarding for Muhamad Faredhzuan Termizi Saufi, who emerged as ‘Champion of Champions’ at this year’s Mr Kuching Bodybuilding Championship.

The 32-year-old Airport Fire Rescue Services personnel, better known as Mizi, first won the Bodybuilding Above-70kg category before taking on the winners of the Bodybuilding Under-70kg and Novice categories in the overall title showdown at Aeon Mall Kuching Central on Saturday.

He defeated Azmizi Bujang and Mohd Amirul Razali to claim the coveted Champion of Champions title.

“It took me a moment to get over the feeling of disbelief. But then I told myself that this was what 12 weeks of preparation had contributed.

“Now, it is time to refocus on the upcoming Mr Sarawak, the state-level competition. I want to do my best,” he said in a press release on Sunday.

Mizi made his competitive debut at an open competition in Pahang in 2024, where he finished among the top five in the Novice Physique category.

The Melanau athlete from Daro said he began competing in physique in 2023 before deciding this year that he needed a new challenge.

“I started with physique in 2023, but for this year, I felt that my training needed an upgrade. It was a transition, but I feel it was a natural decision. Still, I never expected it to land me the championship title,” he said.

Mizi expressed gratitude to his family and colleagues, the Kuching Division Bodybuilding Association (KDBBA), and members of Team Pringles, including Coach Jaja and Coach Badrul, for their support.

“I am really happy and thankful for the solid support from everyone. I am grateful for the trust and encouragement I received,” he said.

With the Mr Sarawak Bodybuilding Championship 2026 set to take place at Boulevard Shopping Mall here on June 20 (Saturday), Mizi said he would maintain his existing training and preparation routine.

After the state-level competition, however, he already has a reward in mind.

“I will head straight to Kampung Bahagia Jaya and really enjoy my grandmother’s ‘ikan arun’ and ‘nyak sekiu’. It will be a reward for myself,” he said.

The fifth annual Mr Kuching Bodybuilding Championship drew 46 athletes from districts within Sarawak’s southern zone.

Other category winners were Ahmad Farhan Bahron in the Sports Physique Under-170cm category, Liau Wei Tsung in Sports Physique Above-170cm, William Hii in Athletic Physique Under-170cm and Gabriel Leroy Andy in Athletic Physique Above-170cm.

Organised by KDBBA under the Sarawak Bodybuilding Association, the annual competition serves as a selection platform for Kuching Zone athletes ahead of the Mr Sarawak championship.

The selected athletes will compete against contenders from Sarawak’s central and northern zones at the state-level event.
