In what is being hailed as a defining moment for the bodybuilding fraternity, Guyana is set to host its first-ever Pro Bodybuilding Competition in 2027.
The landmark agreement was finalised during the PanAmerican Congress in Mexico, where Roger Callender, President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation, met with the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) President, Dr Rafael Santonja, to solidify Guyana’s ties with the international bodybuilding community.
According to a press release, Dr. Santonja has pledged his full support, promising to work closely with Callender to ensure the success of the prestigious event.

The benefits of this historic achievement are expected to ripple far beyond the sport itself as the competition is set to provide a massive boost to tourism and significantly strengthen the local hospitality sector, bringing a welcome windfall for hotels, local businesses, and services required to stage a show of this magnitude.
Athletes and supporters are expected to flood into the country from across the globe, including neighbouring South American and Caribbean nations.
Crucially, the event will also mark the first time that Guyana’s home-grown Pro athletes will have the opportunity to compete at the absolute elite level on home soil.
