Goa’s powerlifters delivered a commendable performance at the National Sub-Junior and Junior Men’s and Women’s Classic Powerlifting Championship held at Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, recently.

A 15-member Goa contingent participated in the prestigious championship and returned with notable achievements.

In the junior women’s category, Pushpa Vishvakarma secured the overall bronze medal in the 43kg weight category. She also won bronze medals in all three disciplines — squat, bench press and deadlift. Her impressive performance earned her qualification to represent India at the forthcoming Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship in Canada.

In the sub-junior category, Khush Roy finished fourth in the 69kg weight division. He claimed silver medals in both the squat and deadlift events, showcasing his potential at the national level.

The Goa team was coached by Tanuj Kinalkar of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).

Minister for Sports, Art and Culture Shri Ramesh Tawadkar and Sports Authority of Goa Treasurer Vinay Tubki congratulated the Goa contingent on their achievements and wished the athletes success in future competitions.

Also present on the occasion were Uday Dangui, President of the Goa Amateur Powerlifting Association; Prashant Naik, Vice-President of the association; and K. Prasad Naik, National Referee Category-I.
