It was a showdown at the Haag Recital Hall, where the El Camino Bodybuilding Club Championship took place Wednesday, May 27 at 1 p.m. The club members candidates were Juan Lopez, 21, Jagger Smith, 19, Amar Hazara, 19, Diego Flores, 23, and Vincent Rosales, 20.
It was the club’s third annual competition, arranged by its president Kentaro “Ken” Matsugaya, 19.
The Body Building Club was established officially by Matsugaya and Hazara, who served as the its vice president in Spring 2025.
They originally planned to establish a body building club on their high school campus, but the idea never came to fruition. But when they started attending El Camino College, with no bodybuilding club exisiting, they decided to take action and bring their high school dreams to life.
Both Matsugaya and Hazara’s goal is to inform people the benefits of bodybuilding and fitness. This year’s competition lasted for about two hours and at the conclusion, Hazara won first place.
“I feel very proud of myself and this is my first win,” Hazara said, adding that his personal philosophy is to “inspire people to value the grind as much as the glory.”
