The growing sport of Powerlifting is set to return to Erie this coming weekend at Sinai Sports. On May 16 doors will open at 7:45 a.m. for the Great Lakes Powerlifting Championships. Two sessions will be held throughout the day.
Women and lightweight men will begin their competition at 9 a.m., heavyweight men will compete at 3 p.m. Awards for each class will be presented to winners following each compeition.
This year 83 lifters will compete ranging from 11 years old to 82 years old who are traveling from New York, Ohio, and throughout Pennsylvania.
Diane Lewis the meet director of the Great Lakes Powerlifting Championships stated, “We are so excited to see that powerlifting is such a growing sport in our area. With new lifters at each meet and competitors coming from outside the region, it’s incredible to see the positive impact on both our sport and local tourism.”
