Afghanistan Wins 6 Medals At 2026 World Powerlifting Championship

Afghanistan’s national powerlifting team won six medals at the 2026 World Powerlifting Championship in Belarus, delivering one of the country’s strongest international performances in the sport in recent years.

The Afghanistan Powerlifting Federation said Afghan athletes secured four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal during the competition, which featured more than 600 athletes from eight countries.

Afghan athletes Fawad Shirinsokhan, Jaber Shirinsokhan, Noor Ahmad Sakhizada and Mirwais Rafiizada each won gold medals for Afghanistan during the international event.

Meanwhile, Rohullah Khairandish earned a silver medal and Hamidullah Hakimi won a bronze medal, completing Afghanistan’s six-medal achievement at the championship.

The Afghanistan delegation participated in the tournament with six athletes and one coach. The competition started on May 6 and concluded on May 10 in Belarus under the supervision of the WRPF international federation.

Afghan athletes have continued participating in regional and international competitions despite ongoing economic challenges and restrictions affecting sports development across the country.
