Fervid Fitness in Flint will be hosting a Raise the Bar charity powerlifting event on Saturday, August 1, where people can watch incredible feats of strength as lifters compete to raise vital funds for leukaemia and myeloma research. There will be £500 cash prizes for Best Male and Best Female Lifter.
Whether competing or supporting, all are welcome to help make a real difference in the fight against blood cancer.

At the heart of Raise the Bar is organiser Dr Chelsea Batty, whose drive to make a difference comes from a deeply personal place.
After her mum was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2024, Chelsea saw first-hand the challenges faced not only in treatment, but in the support available to patients.
She is particularly passionate about raising awareness of rarer cancers, which she believes are too often overlooked compared to more common diagnoses. This lack of attention can mean patients miss out on vital services including access to cancer exercise rehabilitation, which has been shown to significantly improve both physical health and overall quality of life during treatment.
Chelsea said: “As a powerlifter, I’ve organised this event annually for the past four years, bringing the community together through strength sport. This year, alongside £500 prizes for the top male and female lifters, we’re raising funds for leukaemia and myeloma research, particularly to support exercise rehabilitation, which too many patients, including my mum, aren’t offered.”

Through Raise the Bar, Chelsea hopes to shine a light on these gaps while bringing the community together in support of those affected.
For her, the event is about more than competition it’s about creating understanding, building support networks, and ensuring that no one facing cancer feels forgotten.
The day will host not only a powerlifting competition where entry fees are given to the charity but also will see a live band and various stalls, including baked goods and a raffle.
