Eugene/Springfield to host 2026 Special Olympics Oregon winter powerlifting meet

Special Olympics athletes from across the southern Willamette Valley will take the platform in Springfield this month as the Eugene/Springfield Special Olympics program hosts the 2026 Special Olympics Oregon Winter Regional Games Powerlifting Meet.

The meet is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Hamlin Middle School, 326 Centennial Blvd., Springfield. Organizers say the community is invited to attend and cheer on athletes and coaches traveling from Benton County, Cottage Grove, Douglas County, and Eugene/Springfield.

Powerlifting competitors will take part in three lifts: squat, bench press and deadlift. The meet will run on a single platform, giving spectators a clear view of each lift.

Opening ceremonies are set for 10 a.m., with competition and awards running from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to organizers. The approximate lift schedule lists squat from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a 30-minute lunch break. Bench press is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., with deadlift from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Awards will be presented after all competition concludes, and times may shift as the meet runs on a rolling schedule.

Organizers say this season includes updates aimed at creating more direct matchups, with each weight class competing in its own division so athletes lift against others in the same weight grouping.

Custom event merchandise will also be available onsite from Events By Idea, which will be printing shirts and gear during the meet.

There will be no concessions inside the venue, but organizers note that restaurants and stores are a short drive away. Ample onsite parking will be available.
