Joseph Baena has made the successful transition to the bodybuilding stage an has done it naturally. He has been open about his process and how he wants to remain steroid free at this point in his career. Baena sat down for a conversation with GQ about his diet habits and workouts to get ready for his first show. This includes his supplements and what works best to prep for the gym.

Being the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joseph Baena has been in the spotlight as he chased his bodybuilding dreams. It was only a matter of time before he achieved these goals and became a winning competitor. Baena has been blessed with incredible genetics and this has allowed him to remain natural.

Joseph Baena’s Supplements Used During Prep

Joseph Baena shared that he works out in the morning and this sometimes requires a boost. This is where pre-workout comes into play. His supplements are common given his goals of staying natural. He shared the full list, along with what helps him get the best sleep at night:

  • Protein
  • Creatine
  • Pre-Workout
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D3
  • Zinc
  • Fish Oil
  • Magnesium

“Magnesium has helped a ton with sleep and relaxation. I tried ashwagandha too. That was find for a while but I heard someone that was like you’re not supposed to take it for very long because it basically numbs you as a person.”

Joseph Baena’s Journey To Natural Bodybuilding

Baena has been interested in fitness for many years now. The 28-year-old has worked hard to craft an impressive physique and has taken it to the next level to step on stage. He has worked with many fitness greats, including Robby Robinson and Mike O’Hearn, in the gym to aid in his prep over the years.

Baena has expressed interest in competing naturally, which he was able to do during his debut and beyond. He has not done a steroid cycle yet and has “never felt like he needed to.”

The first competition was a success as he competed at the 2026 NPC Natural Colorado State Championships. He was able to finish in the top two of each division he competed in while winning gold in three. Baena finished first in the Men’s Open Bodybuilding Heavyweight class, Men’s Classic Physique True Novice, and Men’s Classic Physique Novice. He finished as the runner-up in Men’s Classic Physique Open Class C. Baena went onto earn his INBA Pro Card by winning his second show during the Iron Glaiator Classic Physique competition.
