Is Nick Walker thinking about taking a break from competing to make major improvements?

After his performance at the 2026 Arnold Classic, Walker spoke about what it takes to improve drastically in bodybuilding. He believes that it takes time to build a championship winning physique and it can be accomplished through breaks.
“Improvements are truly made during down time, nothing drastically will change if your competing week after week, patience is key here”
Walker was criticized last year for his midsection, among other issues with his physique. He finished sixth at the 2025 Olympia and quickly shared that he would no longer be working with Kyle Wilkes. Walker wanted to coach himself after working with Wilkes for over a year. Walker proved the doubters wrong with a runner-up finish in Columbus this year, setting the stage for the Olympia at the end of the year.

Will Nick Walker Break From Competition?

Nick Walker did not confirm that he will take a break or share which shows he will compete in next. Instead, Walker discussed what it is like being a Pro and how it is different year to year when it comes to competition.
“I understand being a pro is different but whatever happened to people taking a year off and coming back with a totally different look. I guess as a pro, you compete a little more often.”
The sport of bodybuilding is attempting to entice competitors to compete more often, especially during the biggest shows of the year. But is this a wining strategy come the Olympia?
“Win a show, go to Olympia, but whatever happened to getting qualified and then be like alright, let my body rest until the Olympia now. Now, it’s like let’s do eight shows. By the time you get to the big one, you look like dog sh*t.”
It has been a tumultuous run for Nick Walker in recent years. Walker was forced to miss the 2023 Olympia after suffering a torn hamstring. He was able to return to the stage and win the 2024 New York Pro, which punched his ticket to the biggest show of the year once again. He did not make it to the stage once again but made a complete return in 2025.
Now, Walker is focused on looking his best at the most important times.
“The ones that are at the top, look I get you want to see them compete more but got to look at it from a competitive standpoint. We want to be able to progress. We want to grow more, or in my case, just refine. Imagine if I had just a year of refinement and just improved weak areas.”
