At the powerlifting championship in Katowice, Poland, the Serbian flag was once again on the winner’s podium thanks to the triumph of Živorad Marković from Leskovac, who lifted 200 kilograms and once again demonstrated his quality among more than 1,000 exceptional competitors from all over the world.
Žika competed in the unlimited bench press. An impressive 200 kilograms led him to the gold medal. A confident, strong, and technically precise performance also secured him the title of absolute winner of the competition, so another medal was placed on his chest, and in his hands, the trophy intended for those who were the best among the best.
As before, Žika dedicated this exceptional success in this strength sport to his homeland and his native Leskovac. He has always done this when returning as a winner from a large number of competitions held throughout the world: Germany, Sweden, Austria, Spain, Hungary, America… At the beginning of this year, he won gold in Egypt, and in October of last year in Dubai.
-This is my 16th championship title, across eight world federations. Everywhere I competed, I did not miss the opportunity to promote my Serbia and my Leskovac, to which I returned after spending a part of my life abroad. It is an honor for me to be a role model for young people with whom I share the common goals of promoting the city and the state, but also to witness that our country and local government appreciate and support these efforts – said this multiple world, European, and domestic champion.
He points out that even this latest medal was not earned without much toil and sweat, but regardless of the fact that he has entered his seventh decade of life, he has no intention of giving up.
-I will try to push the boundaries as long as my health serves me. I exercise regularly in my gym, I run, and I also help younger competitors who are following in my footsteps by winning medals at European and world competitions. I am absolutely dedicated to this sport, and I view every victory, including this one in Poland, as just another step in my career and an additional motive to wrap myself in the Serbian flag at the next competition – concludes Marković, who achieved his absolute record at a competition in Russia when he lifted 230 kilograms.
