Joseph Baena Addresses Mr. Olympia Future After Dominant Bodybuilding Debut

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son, Joseph Baena, is focused on staying natural but leaves the door open for the future.

Joseph Baena is not thinking about the Mr. Olympia just yet. Fresh off a dominant debut at the 2026 NPC Natural Colorado State Championships, the 28-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger responded to a fan on Instagram who asked whether he planned to compete at the Olympia one day or remain natural.

“Plan is to stay natural as of now,” Baena wrote. “We’ll see what the future holds.”

It is a measured response that leaves the door open without making any commitments, fitting for an athlete who has spent years carving out his own identity in the shadow of one of the most iconic figures in sports history.

A Debut Worth Talking About

Baena made his long-anticipated competitive bodybuilding debut on March 28 in Denver at the 2026 NPC Natural Colorado State Championships, a drug-free national qualifier. He did not just show up, he dominated, taking home three first-place titles and a runner-up finish across four divisions.

His results on the day:

  • 1st Place – Men’s Open Bodybuilding Heavyweight
  • 1st Place – Men’s Classic Physique True Novice
  • 1st Place – Men’s Classic Physique Novice
  • 2nd Place – Men’s Classic Physique Open Class C

After the show, Baena took to Instagram to celebrate, posting photos of himself on stage with a simple caption: “Mission accomplished.”

More Than Just Arnold’s Son

While the bodybuilding world knows Baena primarily through his father, he has been quietly building his own profile for years. Beyond the gym, he has pursued an acting career, including a role in the 2024 action thriller “Gunner”, and landed a Men’s Health cover. He has also been open about the pressure of carrying one of sport’s most recognizable surnames.

“It’s been a huge growth year of me finding out who I am and really being secure… confident… no matter what the challenges are, what the comparisons are,” Baena previously told Fox News Digital.

That mindset was on full display in Denver. Rather than simply trading on his father’s name, Baena put in the work and let his physique speak for itself.

Arnold Was Watching

The moment carried extra weight given who was in his corner. Arnold Schwarzenegger, seven-time Mr. Olympia and the most iconic name in bodybuilding history, personally coached his son leading up to the competition, working with him on posing and presentation at Gold’s Gym in Venice Beach. Videos of the two training together went viral in the days before the show, with Schwarzenegger carefully adjusting his son’s positioning on stage.

The resemblance between father and son was not lost on the bodybuilding community. Several notable figures in the sport praised Baena’s debut, noting his balanced physique and the uncanny similarity to Arnold’s own stage presence in his prime.

Natural For Now, But The Future Is Open

For now, Baena’s answer is straightforward: He is committed to competing natural and focused on developing as an athlete. The NPC Natural Colorado State Championships is a national qualifier that sits within the broader NPC pathway, meaning professional status and bigger stages are possible down the road if he chooses to pursue them.

At 28, with one competition under his belt, an acting career gaining momentum, and one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time in his corner, Baena is in no rush. The Olympia question can wait. Right now, the focus is on what comes next in a competitive journey that is only just beginning.
